On Aug. 3rd, 2010, the maiden voyage ceremony of the survey ship "Nan Feng" of South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute (SCSFRI), Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (CAFS) was held in Guangzhou. Representatives from Countryside Technology Ministry of Science & Technology Department and Rural Center attended the ceremony. The ship's investigation of oceanic cephalopod resources in Xisha Islands and its adjacent waters symbolized an initiation of the new era for the development strategies of marine economy and fisheries by science & technology, further promoting the bilateral and multilateral cooperation on fisheries between China and other regions and countries, and more importantly, providing important science and technology for realizing China's highly competitive distant fisheries.
"Nan Feng" is the first self-designed and self-constructed comprehensive fishery resource and environmental science survey ship in China, with own intellectual property right. Total tonnage: 1537 t, Length: 66.66 m, width: 12.4 m, cruising endurance: 8 000 n mile and 60 d, unrestricted area of navigation, maximum knot: 14. It is characterized by good seaworthiness and maneuverability as well as good ability to anti wave and recovery, fit for navigating and investigating under different distant fishing conditions.
