SCSFRI‘s Initial Breakthrough in Artificial Breeding of Tapes literatus aspersa (Gmelin)

On July 29, 2011, experts from Bureau of Scientific and Technical Information of Sanya City conducted a field acceptance test on the self-selected project “Research on Artificial Breeding ofTapes literatus aspersa(Gmelin)” of SCSFRI Hainan Center and Shellfish Industry Technical System Hainan Comprehensive Experimental Station. The experts verified the experimental records and tested based on random sampling. After 3-month culture (started from April 25, 2011), 90,920 individuals of artificial seeding at 1.9 mm~8.5 mm were cultured (5,000 ind/m3averagely).

T.iteratus aspersa(Gmelin), a shellfish that burrow in sand, living in the coarse sand at the bottom or coral platform from lower intertidal zone to water depth of 20 m, distribute in coastal area of southern Hainan Island, especially in Li’an Gang and Xincun Gang of Lingshui. However, overfishing in recent years leads to a decrease in the resources. The success in artificial breeding of T.literatus aspersa (Gmelin) will provide new and fine varieties for beach culture and bottom sowing proliferation in the future, which will also bring good social and economic benefits.
